January 2011 President’s Letter: Winter Car of New England

Dear Friends,

Our Executive Committee has changes to announce for this year’s Winter Car of New England competition:

The membership will gather at the Automotion garage to make the selections on Saturday, February 5, and the winners’ names will be released the following week.

This is well in advance of President’s Day, so that winners can promote their awards in the region in time for the traditional sales weekends.

(Note: February 5 is less than a month away. If you have not yet entered the Winter Car competition, we need your vehicles ASAP in order to allow the jury as much seat time as possible. Call John Lawlor at Automotion: 508-378-3023)

And to spare everyone the trip to snowy Boston in late winter, the awards themselves will be given out at a NEMPA dinner on Friday, May 20, the evening before the opening of the Newport Concours d’Elegance.

We will then also present our annual Yankee Cup for Excellence in Technology; the Yankee Value Award; and the new Ritvo Award for Design & Elegance. This honors the late Gene Ritvo, one of our veteran members, who was known for his classic car photography and his eye for design. You will receive more information on these awards soon.

Best wishes for 2011,

Ezra Dyer, President
Keith Griffin, Vice-President
