
The 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show delivered an exciting showcase of innovation, design, and performance from various automakers. Members of the New England Motor Press Association were on hand to provide coverage, capturing the excitement of one of the year’s most anticipated events.
Hyundai made waves with the unveiling of its first three-row electric SUV, the Ioniq 9. Sharing a platform with the Kia EV9, the Ioniq 9 offers three powertrain options, including a Long Range Single Motor delivering up to 335 miles of range and a Performance Dual Motor with 422 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Capable of 350-kilowatt DC fast charging, the Ioniq 9 charges from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes. With a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, this electric SUV pairs functionality with luxury. The interior is a showcase of eco-friendly materials, Relaxation Seats with massage functions, and a dual 12.0-inch screen setup, all housed in an aerodynamic design highlighted by pixelated lighting. Launching in early 2025, it signals Hyundai’s bold step into the family EV market.

Adding to the excitement, Hyundai debuted the Initium, a hydrogen fuel cell concept promising a range of over 400 miles. This innovative vehicle integrates hydrogen refueling route planning and is expected to enter production by early 2025.

Over at Kia, the 2026 EV9 GT stole the spotlight as a high-performance version of its three-row electric SUV. With an estimated 501 horsepower, adaptive dampers, and an electronic limited-slip rear differential, it’s engineered for enthusiasts. Bolstered seats with green microsuede inserts and exclusive digital displays add to the sporty vibe. Delivering over 300 miles of range and a zero to 60 time as low as 4.3 seconds, this model is set to arrive in late 2025 with an expected price north of $80,000.

Kia also showcased a refreshed 2025 EV6, featuring sharper styling, interior upgrades, and larger batteries, enabling up to 319 miles of range. The EV6 GT stands out with 641 horsepower and simulated gear-shift mode, pushing the boundaries of electric performance. Rounding out Kia’s lineup was the 2026 Sportage, updated with fresh styling, new hybrid trims, and enhanced safety features.

Ford turned back the clock with the 2025 Bronco Stroppe Special Edition, a tribute to the Baja-winning Broncos of the 1960s and ’70s. This retro-inspired two-door SUV features a white and orange paint scheme, a blue hardtop, and vintage accents paired with modern off-road technology. Powered by a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, it includes advanced suspension systems, Fox internal-bypass dampers, and 35-inch off-road tires for ultimate trail capability.

Volkswagen introduced updates to two key models. The 2025 Tiguan now features a sleeker design, a more powerful 201-horsepower engine, and upgraded technology like a fully digital instrument panel and IQ.Drive safety features. The 2025 Taos impressed with a more powerful 1.5-liter turbo engine, refreshed styling, and an upgraded interior, all starting at $24,995.

With these exciting launches and more, the 2024 LA Auto Show demonstrated the industry’s relentless push for innovation, blending sustainable technologies with performance and style. The event set the stage for electrifying years ahead in the automotive world.
